Ann Craft Trust – ACTing Against the Abuse of Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities
The Ann Craft Trust is a UK based organisation working with staff in the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors to protect people with learning disabilities who may be at risk from abuse. The Trust also provides advice and information to parents and carers who may have concerns about someone that they are supporting.
Barnardo’s Orchard/Mosaic Project
Barnardo’s Orchard/Mosaic project works with children who have been sexually abused, with the aim of building up the child’s self-esteem and resilience, to help them fulfil their potential.
Child Exploitation & Online Protection Centre
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre is part of UK police and is dedicated to protecting children from sexual abuse wherever they may be. That means building intelligence around the risks, tracking and bringing offenders to account either directly or with local and international forces and working with children and parents to deliver the unique ‘ ThinkuKnow’ educational programme. The centre’s approach is truly holistic, its style is totally inclusive and its appeal is to everyone out there to work with them in making every child matter.
NAPAC – The National Association for People Abused in Childhood
NAPAC is a registered charity, based in the UK, providing support and information for people abused in childhood.
R.E.A.C.H. – Rape Examination Advice Counselling and Help
R.E.A.C.H. provides a free, confidential counselling, support and advice service for women and men (aged 16 and over at the time of the assault) who have been subjected to an attack of a sexual nature. It was initiated by Northumbria Police and their Women Doctors Scheme to respond to clients needs. R.E.A.C.H. has two dedicated centres; The Ellis Fraser Centre in Sunderland and The Rhona Cross Centre in Newcastle. They are designed to provide a fully equipped medical examination suite, interview facilities and quiet rooms for counselling.
Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland
We provide free, confidential support, information and counselling to women who have experienced sexual violence.
We provide free, safe, professional support and information for women and girls over 13 who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives.
We offer the following to women and girls who live, work or study in Tyneside or Northumberland:
- Face-to-face counselling
- Email support
- Group work
- Practical & Emotional Support
- Specialist information
- Telephone helpline

SAFELINE is a voluntary association based in the UK which has been established by people who were themselves sexually abused as children. The objects of the charity are to relieve suffering and advance education amongst people experiencing the after effects of the trauma of rape and sexual abuse, without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, race, colour or of political, religious or other opinions.
SomeOne Cares is a free, confidential counselling service for survivors of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. It is a not-for-profit organisation working throughout the North East of England. SomeOne Cares was established in 1989 and works with males and females from 11 years plus. It specialises in childhood sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault. Telephone 0191 257 8094. The UK Safer Internet Centre is a site where you can find the latest esafety tips, advice and resources to help children and young people stay safe online.
Waves is a monthly group (at least initially) for those who wish to discuss with others issues around emotional abuse. This group is open to all adult survivors of emotional abuse in childhood. Please note, it is not designed to look into issues around sexual abuse or offences.
Domestic Abuse
If you are experiencing domestic abuse, or worried about your partner’s behaviour, you can call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline run by Refuge, for free and in confidence.
The helpline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and answered by highly trained, female advisers, who will never tell you what to do or judge you. Instead, they will empower you to understand your options and support you to make decisions about the future. They can help you find a refuge place or other specialist services in your community, and they will support friends and family members who are concerned about somebody they know.
