Awakenings North East was founded by Jim Fergus and started in 2004, this was following discussions with other service users, who do not have many opportunities to become involved in groups outside of normal hours.

The Awakenings North East group was put together to give an opportunity to help people suffering from mental Health difficulties, to get together and take part in social activities during the year.

Initially the group meets once a month and plays Ten Pin Bowling, and finishes with a coffee and bite to eat and a chat.

Also planned are day trips 2 or 3 times a year (eg Alnwick Gardens) and now from 2013 the group is now in a position to expand and has started to incorporate other activities as listed opposite, and hopefully attract new members.

All activities have been funded, so you will only have to pay for your travel to any venue.

The committee work hard all year round to keep the project running, applying for funding grants, and looking for new members.
