Helix Arts: Heart of Care Projection – 19 January 2024

Left hand side shows musical notes, right hand shows a painting of a blue and green peacock

Friday 19 January from 5pm to 6.30pm outside the Linskill Centre
Helix Arts’ would like to invite you to the outdoor projection of ‘Heart of Care’, a culmination of a two-year partnership arts project between Helix Arts, Rosetta Life, Bristol Black Carers and Kingston Carers’ Network. The project has worked with carers to create original artwork that shines a light on the invisible role that carers play in families and communities, challenging the perception of care in an inclusive society and expressing the compassion displayed in the role of carer. Heart of Care is an artwork made up of a series of dance, poetry and journal images with a sound score that will be projected in public spaces in Bristol, London and North Tyneside. Original music composed by Matthew Peters will provide a backdrop for the imagery.

Helix Arts worked with Carers from PROPS family recovery service in North Tyneside. Artist Jessica Kinnersley worked alongside participants to create their reflective journal pages giving participants time for themselves for self-care, reflections and recovery. The artwork projection is around 20 minutes and will play on a loop until 6.30pm. The event is free and open to the local community to attend. Tea and coffee will be available between from 5pm to 5.30pm. For more information, or to RSVP, email info@helixarts.com

Linskill’s Community Grapevine – 5 January 2024

We start by sharing some wonderful news! Two of our Cycling Volunteers, Bill Goldsmith and Dave Henderson, have been awarded a Spirit of North Tyneside Award for their contribution to keeping the borough Safe and Secure.

As well as helping with our cycling programme through Dr Bikes and led rides, they have also been supporting the charity Welcome to the UK-North Tyneside, who work with refugees and asylum seekers. Since March, Bill and Dave have donated over 50 fully serviced bikes and contributed to the chairties fundraising efforts.

Bill attended the presentation at the Council Chambers in December (unfortunately Dave was unable to attend) along with Lucy Fenwick from our Community Programme team.

Is one of your New Year resolutions to get back on your bike? Then we can help, thanks to funding from Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival programme.

These events are designed to inspire a change in cycling behaviour for the target audience of people who do not currently cycle regularly (once every two weeks or less).

Big Bike Revival – Returners Ride

We will be taking this ride at a gentle pace and will cover roughly 6 miles but this will depend on the weather and how the group is feeling on the day. A small, social group with full support from the ride leader team, this is the perfect ride to ease you back into the saddle.

Linskill’s Community Grapevine – 22 December 2023

We kicked off our ‘Handmade Christmas’ programme on the 21st November, 14 festive events later we welcomed 242 participants. That’s 240 plus coffees made and who knows how many mince pies consumed! Our aim was to offer a range of activities, at affordable, subsidised prices, which would allow as many people as possible to enjoy something a little bit festive. The support you give and your attendance throughout the year makes all this possible – thank You!

As well as our official programme, the regular groups have continued with festive sessions and celebrations plus we welcomed over 200 people to our first Christmas Fair.

It’s no wonder we are looking forward to a few days at home to rest our feet. Lucy and Charly will be out of the office from Thursday 21st December to Wednesday 3rd January.

Look out for our next newsletter on Friday 5th January which will be a bumper edition full of our January and early February activities.

Thank you for your continued support – happy holidays!

Linskill’s Community Grapevine – 24 November 2023

We REALLY appreciate the time you give to filling out our evaluation forms. Our programme is often supported by funders and we need to show them, and our board of Trustees, what we are doing with their support. We always send out the same questions, regardless of the activity, so sometimes it might seem a bit odd that we’re asking something irrelevant.

The ‘word art’ above is how you describe our sessions to your friends – it’s powerful stuff!

TAKE NOTICE – Art Appreciation
Join Anita Brain Tyrrell, acrylic artist, as she shares her journey through art, from study to practice. Anita’s focus is on portraiture and the sense of place which portraits provide.
